Every Day In May, Week 1
I’ve been sharing like an insatiable Chihuahau-Influencer this week over on Instagram. Last week I wrote about establishing creative habits and slowly edging towards something of value in small relentless clawing manoeuvres (We could also call these moves ‘daily actions’).
I (rashly and on a total whim) declared that I would be sharing my creative outputs with you everyday in May. Little did I know that this would make me a little neurotic, a lot obsessive and would accidentally hold my feet to a creative fire.
It has been GOOD.
Sharing has been a B-L-A-S-T. After the first arm-jerky-awkward post (feeling suddenly über self consciousness, knowing that my drawing was being filmed (the inner crustacean: having a FIELD day read about the Crustacean here)) and deciding I hated this stupid challenge around day 3, I found my creatively-burnt feet in the process and discovered that sharing everyday has loosened my hand up and forced me to be far more decisive:
Can it be that the uncomfortableness of this kind of exposure is actually beneficial?
Here’s a little of what I got up to this week:
Creative Fuel
One of my Art Teachers used to say ‘Art making can’t exist in a vacuum’: I’ve been LOVING Melissa Lakey’s art on Instagram this week. Especially the zine she shared in her feed. I’ve also been listening to Sharon Blackie’s ‘Hagitude’ (Sharon Blackie writes on Substack here). Both have been assertive hands on the volume knob of the creative force within, really looking forward to showing you next week’s creativity.
See you again soon X
